A project is set to be underway to develop a zero carbon house which can show the most cost effective energy efficiency measures.A new project is looking to install a range of home improvement measures in a home to transform it into a zero carbon property.Researchers from E.ON and Nottingham University are taking an "inefficient" 1930s style property and developing it as part of its 2016 House project.Over a two-week period the house will be subject to a number of home improvement measures, including the installation of double glazing and draught proofing.Following this, technologies which can harness the power of natural resources are to be added to the property.Dr Mark Gillott, leader of the research at the university, said over 100 sensors are to be used to measure the temperature and humidity in the house. He added: "The house provides us with a unique test facility to measure the exact cost benefit, energy efficiency and carbon reduction figures achieved through the various upgrade measures we are implementing over the next two weeks - valuable information when deciding on which of the many energy efficiency measures are the most cost effective."The Scottish government recently announced that 100,000 homes are set to benefit as part of its new £15 million eco-scheme, with double glazing and insulation to be installed in the properties.
