Yorkshire residents to learn about home security

Police are to give advice on home security in West YorkshirePolice in West Yorkshire have revealed plans to raise awareness of the importance of home security in the region.Residents in West Yorkshire are to be told by police about ways they can improve their home security, it has been revealed.

Offices and community support teams in the Rothwell area are to begin a Crime Prevention Roadshow this week, which will see them man an exhibition van and talk to people about preventing burglaries.

The advice will particularly focus on what to do in the summer months, as this is often the time when people leave their homes for holidays.

PC Steve Brewer, crime prevention officer for Rothwell Neighbourhood Policing Team, said officers will also visit communities to highlight the importance of home security.

He added: "The doorknock is the perfect way to put home security to the test, and at every home which we manage to 'enter' we aim to offer crime prevention advice to residents to ensure they don't become a victim for real."

Earlier this year, the Association of British Insurers urged people to always ensure they have good quality door locks in place on their properties.
