Yorkshire police begin home security drive

Police in Yorkshire are encouraging homeowners to improve their securityWest Yorkshire Police has begun an operation to raise awareness of home security in the Kirklees area.Police in West Yorkshire are working to raise awareness of home security issues in the Kirklees area, it has been revealed.

Officers from the Valleys Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) are currently undertaking Operation Focus in the region, which sees them work with a range of other community services to ensure residents do not become victims of crime.

Mark Trueman, an inspector for the NPT, said previous efforts had raised some security issues, particularly with unlocked UPVC doors.

"The consequences of leaving your property insecure are clear and we want people to think about locking their doors as soon as they come in to the house. If people get into the habit of doing this, they are less likely to become a victim," he added.

Police in Liverpool recently urged people to keep homes secure, as several cases had shown that car thieves were targeting properties to get hold of the keys for vehicles, the Bootle Times reports.
