A blog posting by Sequoia on FavStocks.com, said that the top priority for home improvement projects should be the floors and walls, as this is where people's eyes are drawn to when they first walk into a property.

"Many old homes have carpeting, especially period homes of the 1940s. The carpeting is likely to be old and worn out, so the best solution is to get rid of it. What's under that carpet will determine the treatment you should give it," they added.

Hard wood flooring can be expensive, but it does add value to a home, said the poster, who advised that existing boarding can be restored by sanding it and treating it with wax.

Echo-Pilot.com also recently said that new flooring is a must for people looking to improve their property, as this is the first thing that people notice.
