Windows and doors 'key to home security'

Police in Lancashire have issued warnings over home securityA police officer has suggested that windows and doors play a fundamental part in home security.Homeowners need to bear in mind the importance of locking UPVC windows and doors during the summer, according to a police officer.

Superintendent Chris Bithell of Lancashire Constabulary has claimed that people should not get complacent about crime prevention in the summer months, especially during warmer weather when they are likely to keep windows open.

He made the comments as part of Operation Julius, which is taking place in the region across this month to ensure people keep their homes safe through the use of alarms and locks.

"Our advice is to ensure that all windows and doors are kept locked when you leave the house and at night time and where possible to keep easy access windows and doors locked even when you're at home," he added.

Homeowners in Chiltern have also been the target by a similar scheme operated by Buckinghamshire's Community Safety Partnership.
