Welsh Tories back home emissions cut

The Welsh Conservatives are promoting energy efficiency measures such as double glazing.The Welsh Conservatives are supporting the fight to reduce the UK's carbon foot print by unveiling new plans to install energy saving features into homes in Wales. The Welsh Conservatives are proposing fitting energy saving features into homes across Wales if they win power at the next Assembly elections.

It is estimated the four year programme could cost £120 million at today's prices and create up to 2,500 jobs if implemented in full.

Earlier this year the Conservatives launched plans for a low carbon economy, including proposals to introduce a new entitlement for every home to be fitted with up to £6,500 of energy efficiency improvements, with the cost being repaid through fuel bills.

Welsh Conservatives hope to work with organisations such as the Energy Saving Trust on implementing the home insulation policy after 2011.

The Energy Saving Trust recommends installing double glazing as it can cut heat loss through windows by half as well as saving you around £135 a year on your heating bills. It can also save around 720kg of carbon dioxide a year.

Double glazing works by trapping air between two panes of glass creating an insulating barrier that reduces heat loss, noise and condensation.
