Those who live in homes managed on behalf of Warrington Borough Council are being asked to vote on whether the properties should be handed over to a different landlord, the Warrington Guardian has reported.

The council asserts that, by voting for the takeover, residents would be opting for improved facilities, such as cheap double glazing and new showers.

Keith Bland, deputy leader of the council, told the newspaper: "It will make a difference to housing stock but also for the environment."

A consultation on the plan has already been held and only four out of 161 replies said they would not be in favour of the changes and 38 neither answered in favour or against the proposal.

Earlier this month, London homeowners were invited to put forward ideas that they would like to be included in the city's climate action plans, which could include a discount on the installation of cheap double glazing.
