Wales surgery first to get loan for improvements like cheap double glazingThe surgery is the first to secure money from the fund offered by the Royal College of General Practitioners and the Carbon Trust, to be used for energy-efficient improvements like cheap double glazing.A doctors' surgery in Wales has become the first to receive a green loan which will allow it to make energy efficient improvements.

The Castle Surgery in Neath, West Glamorgan, will receive a £16,500 loan under a deal between the Royal College of General Practitioners and the Carbon Trust, Healthcarerepublic.com reports.

It is the first financing agreed under a deal in which the Carbon Trust offered to lend practices up to £500,000 interest free to pay for things like cheap double glazing, replacing old boilers and more significant structural alterations to premises.

The Castle Surgery will spend the money on an overnight storage heater which will cut the practice's carbon footprint and save money.

"With the new system we will be using a quarter less power," Steffan Gimblett, practice manager at the surgery, told the news provider.

Historian and TV presenter Dan Snow recently told planningresource.co.uk that installing cheap double glazing is a good way for historic buildings to save money.
