Vicar calls for cash for double glazing in medieval church

Double glazing would reduce drafts in the 900-year-old churchThe vicar of a 900-year-old church is trying to raise funds to repair the Grade I-listed building.A medieval church is in desperate need of repairs, including double glazing, to give it the chance of surviving another 900 years.

Water is seeping into St Mary's Church, in Swaythling, Southampton making the tower crumble, the Southern Daily Echo reported.

The 900-year-old Grade I-listed building needs its roof fixing and requires new stone work, central heating and double glazing.

The Reverend Gary Philbrick, told the newspaper: "If it's going to last another 900 years work has got to be done to keep it water tight."

An initiative to help fund the urgent work on the building has just been launched and the vicar is calling on people with any connection to the church to join a group so they can keep up-to-date with news and help to protect its future.

According to the Energy Saving Trust, installing double glazing is an excellent way to reduce drafts and cut energy emissions.
