Using reputable firm 'could take stress out of home improvement'Home improvement projects can lead to security concerns.People are being advised to use a reputable home improvement firm in a bid to remove stress from any DIY projects.

Melanie Griffiths, assistant editor at Homebuilding and Renovating Magazine, said that a lot of people who attempt projects by themselves are worried about security issues if they do not do the work correctly.

The home improvement expert added that gates and security lights are some of the major things which are installed during DIY projects.

"You can get smart lighting systems that can simulate occupancy of the house. That can be a factor for the garden as well. Security lights would be your number one for the garden," she went on to say.

Her words came after research from Shelter and the Royal Institute of British Architects, which showed that 12 per cent of homeowners are wanting to improve their property's energy efficiency.

Kitchen extensions were the most popular home improvement, closely followed by attic conversions and conservatories.
