There will be 'demand' for home improvements in 2010

Adding cheap new bedrooms is a good way of improving a propertyMany homeowners will add cheap new bedrooms or other home improvements instead of moving in 2010, according to a renovation magazine. Many people will make improvements their homes over the next year, according to Homebuilding and Renovating Magazine, making changes such as adding cheap new bedrooms.

Jason Orme, editor of Homebuilding and Renovating Magazine, said that fewer people are moving house so they are making changes to their existing homes instead.

"The demand for more bedrooms and home improvement is still very much there and it probably shows slightly renewed signs of confidence in the housing market," said Mr Orme.

He added that upgrading the energy efficiency of properties is another home improvement trend that will be popular this year, this could include fitting insulation to walls or adding double glazing windows.

Mr Orme's comments follow the recent publication of a survey conducted by Aspect Maintenance, in which 70 per cent of London homeowners said they had plans to improve their property next year.

Some 14 per cent still intend to sell their renovated house before the end of 2010.
