The young should learn about energy-saving double glazing

The young should learn more about ways of protecting the environment.Apprentices in looking after the UK's green spaces are being offered to youngsters, but they should also be educated in other ways of benefitting the environment, according to the Green Alliance.Youngsters should learn more about energy efficiency, such as the importance of double glazing, according to the Green Alliance.

A spokesperson for Green Alliance, an independent organisation working to make environmental solutions a priority in British politics, supported a new government scheme, which recruits apprentices in environmentally-friendly projects.

She said that the plan to offer "green apprenticeships" to 175 young people is "on the right track and is the sort of thing we would like to see much more of".

The spokesperson added that, through the scheme, young people could gain valuable skills and knowledge in being environmentally-friendly, particularly ways of reducing carbon emissions and fighting fuel poverty.

According to the Energy Saving Trust, double glazing can cut a household's CO2 emissions by 720kg per year.

It also said that, if everyone in the UK fitted double glazing, around £700 million and the equivalent of around 740,000 households' CO2 emissions would be saved each year.
