Sutton Council to create 'low-carbon neighbourhood'

Sutton Council is to improve the green credentials of homes in HackbridgeResidents in Hackbridge are set to have energy efficient measures installed on their properties as part of a new initiative by Sutton Council.Sutton Council has announced plans to offer energy saving measures to residents in Hackbridge.

The local authority has received funding from London mayor Boris Johnson which will be used to help the area cut its carbon emissions significantly over the next three years.

According to the Sutton Guardian, low cost insulation and other measures such as solar panels will be installed at homes in the area.

Councillor Sean Brennan, leader of Sutton Council, said the funding would make Hackbridge "the greenest place to live in the UK".

"Our plans for the suburb include building over a 1,000 new energy efficient homes, new leisure facilities and green spaces, and creating new 'green collar' jobs in the area," he added.

The Welsh Assembly Government recently announced that double glazing and insulation is to be installed at homes in Wrexham, the Daily Post reports.
