In comments which may interest those planning to get kitchen quotes, Ken Fey, vice-president of sink manufacturer Houzer, has claimed that a steel sink can act as the room's "little black dress".

Talking to ARAcontent, he explained the benefits of adding the material to kitchens.

He said: "Stainless steel has transitioned from industrial applications like medical and food-service to residential use for very good reasons.

"Stainless steel offers exceptional hygienic and durability qualities, it ages gracefully and beautifully and it's a 'green' building material."

Earlier this year, Houzer unveiled its new Nouvelle Series of steel sinks, which are designed to offer the benefits of a deep well with a low radius.

The items are available in three different sizes.
