The energy efficiency of a sports centre in Australia is to be improved through the installation of double glazing as part of AUD$2.6 million redevelopment works. An Australian sports centre is to become more energy efficient thanks to the installation of double glazing windows.Major redevelopment work, costing around AUD$2.6 million (£1.4 million), started at the sports centre in Victoria, south-east Australia, yesterday (February 4th), the Lilydale and Yarra Valley reported. Two new multi-purpose courts, primarily for basketball and netball matches and tournaments, are to be created.Water harvesting, double glazing, high efficiency lighting and efficient thermal insulation are to be used in the redevelopment to decrease the amount of energy that is wasted by the centre. "Victorians love their sport and that's why we're investing heavily in grassroots sporting infrastructure to ensure our communities are strong, happy, healthy and active," Australian sports minister James Merlino told the newspaper. Renewable Energy Association policy director Gaynor Hartnell recently said that she hopes that energy efficient technology such as solar panels will soon become as popular and common place as double glazing windows.Posted by Tom Sands
