Smart meter roll-out confirmed

Ed Miliband announced the plans about smart metersThe government has confirmed plans to roll out smart meters to all homes across UK by 2020.Homeowners looking to improve their energy efficiency have been boosted by news that the government is rolling out smart meters to all properties across the UK.

Under the plans, the technology will be installed in all homes by 2020, allowing people to access real-time information on their energy use.

The meters will also highlight how the public can save money on utility bills by using double glazing and other energy saving products in their properties.

Ed Miliband, energy and climate change secretary, said the move was "another part of our Great British refurb".

He added: "Smart meters will empower all consumers to monitor their own energy use and make reductions in energy consumption and carbon emissions as a result. Smart meters will also mean the end of inaccurate bills and estimated meter readings."

Research by uSwitch.com recently revealed that 78 per cent of UK households believe they are more energy efficient than 12 months ago.ADNFCR-2394-ID-19162079-ADNFCR
