Small businesses want to become more energy efficient, perhaps by installing cheap double glazing, but a recent survey by the Federation of Small Businesses has suggested that they require more support from the government in order to do so.The government needs to create business support incentives to help small businesses install energy efficient features, which could include cheap double glazing, according to research by the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB). In the survey of 10,000 members, 57 per cent believed that energy efficiency can provide their business with cost savings. This number said there is not enough advice available to help them understand how to become part of the low carbon economy. Almost half (47 per cent) of businesses surveyed said they had recycled waste and 32 per cent said they had reduced energy use. Around a quarter (24 per cent) said that they had bought energy efficient appliances, which could mean that many have installed cheap double glazing. David Caro, chairman of the FSB's environment and energy committee, said: "The FSB believes that the government needs to give small businesses the incentive to proactively embrace the low carbon agenda rather than force them through heavy handed regulation." Homeowners who want to improve the energy efficiency of their properties have many options, according to the Energy Saving Trust. Installing cheap double glazing can save a household around £135 a year on heating bills, the trust's website asserts.Posted by Sarah Gower
