Site by busy road to get 30 houses with double glazing

30 houses with double glazing are being built near a busy roadHomes planned for a site close to the A34 in Hampshire are to be built with double glazing to reduce noise pollution from the road.Thirty new homes planned for a site close to the A34 in Hampshire will be built with double glazing to reduce road noise.

Some of the homes in Kings Worthy will be built only 20 metres from the dual-carriageway, the Hampshire Chronicle reported.

Planning officers recommended the scheme be approved because 29 of the 30 dwellings will be 'affordable' housing.

Nine of the properties will be shared equity while the rest will be rented from housing associations, according to the newspaper.

Speaking to the publication, Jill Lee, principal planning officer at the city council, said: "We are giving planning permission because although it is a noisy site, this opportunity has come to us to develop a site with 100 per cent affordable housing."

Officers said conditions attached to the planning permission, including double glazing and mechanical ventilation, would reduce road noise.

According to Windows Today, double glazing provides better sound reduction and heat insulation when compared with standard single-glazed windows.

It said many would consider it essential for houses close to busy roads or other high noise-generating areas or objects.
