Shut UPVC windows and adjust heating times as clocks change

Adjust your heating timer this weekendInsurance group RSA is advising people to adjust the timers on their heating and appliances this weekend as the clocks change.Keeping your cheap UPVC windows shut is one way of making sure your energy bills are not too high, but the UK's first carbon neutral insurer is warning businesses and households to reset the timers on their heating and other equipment as the clocks are turned back to ensure they are not wasting energy.

RSA said the extra hour in bed could cause people to forget to turn off the heating or simply to reset it to a new time.

Forgetting to adjust the heating within your home or business could add to the heating bill, and create more CO2.

If an extra hour were to be added on to every company in the UK, then estimations by the corporate responsibility team at RSA suggest that companies could potentially be paying up to five per cent extra for energy, if they needlessly heat empty offices and factories.

According to the Energy Saving Trust, if everyone had double glazing fitted the country could save around £700 million and the equivalent of around 740,000 households' CO2 emissions.
