Self-builders need to "educate themselves" before starting to build and installing double glazing

Self-builders need to The number of self-builds are increasing but many people do not "understand the implications and the basics" of self-builds when they first consider a project, according to Self-builder.Budding self-builders need to "educate themselves" before beginning work on their new property, which could include double glazing, according to Marrion Morton, administration manager at Self-builder.

Self-builder is a provider of self-build insurance, self-build mortgages and financial services.

Speaking at the Homebuilding and Renovating Show in Harrogate, Ms Morton said that many people do not "understand the implications and the basics" of self-builds when they first consider a project.

She added that it is a "really good time" to begin a self-build development because funding is available and prices have reduced.

The number of new self-build completions is expected to increase to 14,000 next year, according to figures from market research company AMA Research.

Last month Duncan Hayes, temporary editor at Build It, advised home improvers to "know your limitations" as attempting to make changes that really require a professional, such as installing double glazing, can lead to "an awful lot of mess".
