Scrappage scheme for double glazing windows gains industry backing

Indurtries support double glazing window scrappage schemeA petition to the government to create a scrappage scheme that would improve the energy efficiency of UK homes by providing those in need with double glazing windows has gained great public and industry support.A proposed scrappage scheme that would see old, drafty windows replaced with heat-preserving double glazing alternatives has received wide public, and now, industry support.

Today, January 15th, a petition to the government to introduce such a scheme reached 3,581 signatures.

Home improvement price comparison website LocalQuoter is backing the petition as it believes such a scheme would encourage the installers and manufacturers of double glazing windows to be more responsible when it comes to the environmental impacts of their work.

LocalQuoter boss Les Yates said: "Having state-of-the-art windows and doors installed is proven to help achieve substantial reductions in CO2, and can play a major part in helping the UK achieve the drastic emissions cuts which we are looking to achieve over the next decade."

The government's boiler scrappage scheme launched on Thursday, January 5th and will help up to 125,000 households to improve their energy efficiency.

Those that are eligible can get their old boilers replaced with fuel-efficient equivalents.
