A Scottish hotel, which was the first on the island of Arran to install double glazing windows, is now introducing a heating system that uses renewable energy.A hotel on the Scottish island of Arran has added to its current array of energy-saving features, which includes double glazing windows, by installing a heating system that uses renewable energy. The Kinloch Hotel received its new £250,000 wood-burning boiler earlier this week, the Arran Banner reported.Speaking to the newspaper, Robert McNeice, project manager at the hotel, said that the hotel owners have a "long tradition of forward thinking and have been ahead of their time including being the first hotel on the island to install central heating and double glazing".The new heating system is to replace six existing oil burners that currently heat all of the hotel's rooms, hot water and swimming pool.A Scottish Biomass Heat Scheme grant partially paid for the new boiler and further funding came from Forestry Commission Scotland and the European Regional Development Fund, according to the newspaper.Homeowners wanting to improve the energy efficiency of their properties should consider installing cheap double glazing, as it can cut CO2 emissions by around 720kg a year, according to the Energy Saving Trust.Posted by Liam Cass.
