The Scottish government is offering discounted loft and cavity wall insulation to help lower household fuel bills this winter.Householders in Scotland will be offered deals on loft and cavity wall insulation to complement other energy efficiency measures such as double glazing quotes.The Scottish government is providing £15 million of funding for the Home Insulation Scheme, which aims to improve the energy efficiency of houses as well as create jobs for energy advisors, insulation manufacturers and fitters.Low-income families will receive free insulation, while others will be offered a discount package. Douglas Sinclair, chair of Consumer Focus Scotland, welcomed the announcement for Scottish households.He said: "Our research has shown that area-based energy efficiency schemes can be an effective way of engaging with consumers and helping them to make their homes warmer and reduce their energy bills."People who think they may be eligible for the insulation offer can contact the Home Insulation Scheme by telephone or online. Doorstep home energy assessors will also visit households in selected areas.As well as effective loft and cavity wall insulation, the Energy Saving Trust advises that comparing double glazing quotes could improve properties' energy ratings.Posted by Liam Cass
