Scots invest £15m in energy efficiency

£15m to be invested in energy-saving measuresSome £15 million is to be invested in making Scottish homes greener.The Scottish government has announced that it is to invest £15 million in making homes greener.

Some 100,000 homes are to benefit from the scheme, which will see energy-saving home improvements made to households across the country.

Measures include installing double glazing, insulation and free energy audits, as well as providing information on how householders can save energy.

Free energy efficiency measures will be offered to people on a low income.

Scottish housing and communities minister Alex Neil explained that the initiative will help Scotland reach its climate change targets.

He said: "By offering householders help with making their homes more energy efficient, people will have the opportunity to do their bit for the environment."

According to the Energy Saving Trust, installing double glazing in a property can cut heat loss through windows by half and save around £135 per year on heating bills.
