Restaurant owner to fight her corner in double glazing row

Llandudno, North WalesThe owner of a Mediterranean restaurant in the seaside holiday resort of Llandudno in North Wales is fighting to keep her double glazed windows.

Cindy Atay installed UPVC double glazed windows in flats above her restaurant in order to block out street noise and improve the energy efficiency of the building. But Conwy County Council is demanding that she rip them out as the property is situated in a conservation area.

A report by the North Wales Weekly News said the council claims the windows affect the character of the building.

Ms Atay said: "This is a test case for everyone in this area who wants to have double glazing.

"We feel we are being discriminated against in not being allowed double glazed windows when other listed buildings in the conservation area have got them."

Ms Atay’s fight is being backed by other traders and residents in the area who are keen to benefit from cheap double glazing costs. The case is due to be heard by a planning official from the Welsh Assembly.
