Residents of a town in Dorset are being advised to check their double glazing windows are locked to avoid further burglaries in the area.Police in Weymouth, Dorset have advised local residents to ensure that their double glazing windows are locked after a spate of 11 burglaries took place in the town in one week.In one of the incidents a woman returned home with her children to find a burglar in her house. In another, a convenience store was broken into, resulting in £500 of damage and £700 worth of goods being stolen, the Dorset Echo reported.Sadie Dobson was the victim of one of the burglaries. Speaking to the newspaper, she said she has now improved security in her home but added: "I look around and lots of houses in this area still keep their windows open. "But then again you do that, it's not until it happens to you that you realise you are inviting the thieves in by doing that."Sergeant Tony Smith said that residents "need to be vigilant" and not leave valuables on display and they should also work as a community to watch over each other's property.At the beginning of British winter time, home insurer MORE TH>N advised homeowners to check the security of their properties, which could include ensuring cheap UPVC windows are locked.Posted by Tim Lloyd.
