Writing for WickedLocal.com, Linda Brigida said that the kitchen is one of the most exciting spaces to remodel in a home, but that function should remain the central focus.

Ms Brigida said that the three most important items in the room are the refridgerator, cooking hob and the sink, which should ideally form a triangle, with the appliances no more than six feet apart.

She added: "There is no such thing as too much counter space, so make sure you utilise every space you can. Choose a surface that is easy to care for and work on. There are so many great choices available now."

Last week, Aga Rangemaster released its sales figures, showing a five per cent increase in purchases of the iconic kitchenware, which has become more and more popular with homeowners recently seeking kitchen quotes.
