Property owners urged to make energy-efficient improvementsCheap double glazing should be installed while the weather is warm.People who are worried about their energy bills have been told to carry out home improvement measures, including installing cheap double glazing, as soon as they can, rather than putting them off.

Julian Troake, energy surveyor, speaking on behlf of the Home Heat Helpline, said that people should not wait to improve the insulation of their property.

He went on to say that anyone who is privately renting their property can contact their landlord, or if they can do it free of charge if they are on benefits or over the age of 70.

Peter Jenkins, spokesperson for the Home Heat Helpline, added that one in three people are worried about the winter ahead.

"What we are also showing is that people aren't really acting on the fact that they are worried about the winter ahead and worried about energy bills. The Home Heat helpline is actually there to help," he stated.
