Providing property investors with incentives to refurbish houses and install features such as cheap double glazing would help the market to recover, the Association of Residential Lettings Agents (ARLA) has suggested. The government should give property investors incentives to refurbish homes and install energy-saving features such as cheap double glazing, the Association of Residential Lettings Agents (ARLA) has suggested. Ian Potter, operations manager of ARLA, said that offering incentives and treating investors like businesses would not only improve the standard of the UK's homes, but would "help the environment with improving insulation and encourage much-needed investment to help get the market back on its feet". Recent research from ARLA has shown that there is currently not enough rental property to meet consumer demand in the UK. Mr Potter said that raising the stamp duty threshold was a "step in the right direction" but that the government needs to introduce "tangible measures" to support the private rented sector. One property that is currently enjoying the benefits of a complete refurbishment is Shipley Parish Council's community room. The £15,500 grant, from energy company E.ON's Sustainable Energy Fund, paid for the room to be fitted with cheap double glazing an air source heat pump, insulation and dry-lining of the walls.Posted by Daniel Brown
