Privately-owned Birmingham houses to get double glazing

Privately-owned Birmingham houses to get double glazingAlmost 1,800 privately-owned Birmingham houses are to be assessed to determine whether they meet the Decent Homes standard and whether they require the installation of double glazing.More privately-owned houses in Birmingham could receive double glazing windows after the city council has announced it is to survey around 1,800 properties to see if they meet the government's Decent Homes standard.

The randomly-selected houses are to be inspected by CPC Limited on behalf of the council by April this year.

Birmingham City Council has already invested more than £600 million in installing double glazing, insulation and other features to bring its own housing stock of over 65,000 properties up to the Decent Homes standard.

John Lines, cabinet member for housing, said: "We remain committed to helping our most vulnerable home owners get the support and assistance they need to live in warm, energy efficient home with modern facilities."

Last month, the London borough of Havering secured £9 million of Decent Homes funding, part of which will be used to install double glazing windows in local, council-owned properties.
