75,000 homes are to receive double glazingThe pre-Budget report, announced yesterday by Alistair Darling, said that 75,000 households are to receive double glazing and insulation.Some 75,000 households are to be given grants to aid them in installing double glazing and insulation, it was announced in the 2009 pre-Budget report yesterday.

As part of the £400 million that the government has allocated for reducing the UK's carbon emissions, Warm Front is to be provided with extra resources to help 75,000 of the most vulnerable households with heating and insulation, including double glazing.

The Warm Front scheme provides grants of up to £3,500 to those that meet certain criteria, such as those over the age of 60 or those on Income Support.

According to the pre-Budget report, some £200 million has been allocated to improve energy efficiency and tackle fuel poverty by offering 125,000 households £400 for upgrading their old boilers to the latest efficient models.

Low-carbon industries are to benefit from £120 million of the budget. This includes the creation of new manufacturing and testing facilities for offshore wind, and support to improve energy use in the chemicals industry.
