Police officer issues home security warning

Homeowners in Fenland and Huntingdonshire have been urged to be vigilantA police officer in Fenland and Huntingdonshire has urged property owners to embrace home security issues.Residents in the Fenland and Huntingdonshire area have been urged by a local police officer to ensure they embrace home security in the coming months.

Chief inspector Russell Waterston has made the call as there have been over 60 burglaries in the region so far this month, with 21 cases involving intruders heading into homes through unlocked UPVC windows or doors.

Talking to the Fenland Citizen, the officer called on homeowners to take responsibility for their belongings and check issues including insurance policies.

"We are currently investing a large amount of resources into tackling burglary across the division but we need the public to take steps to protect themselves," he added.

Recent research by Moneysupermarket.com found that properties in Nottingham and London are generally most at risk of burglary.

Five postcodes from the capital featured in the top 20, while four in Nottingham were included.
