Police advise residents to lock patio doors

Police are advising people to lock patio doors to keep burglars outResidents are being advised by Merton Police to keep their homes secure in order to keep up the area's recent lull in burglaries.Merton Police are celebrating as there was not a single burglary in the borough last month, but they are warning residents to observe basic security rules, such as keeping patio doors and windows with double glazing shut and locked.

The Wimbledon Guardian highlighted that there were no burglaries reported in Mitcham's Graveney ward throughout the whole of September.

Sergeant Lee Rogerson, head of the area's Safer Neighbourhoods Team, told the newspaper that, despite the burglary-free month the police team will be "continuing with activities to help reduce burglary" and asking residents to "remain vigilant".

He pleaded with residents to ensure their homes are secure, which can be done by locking all windows and doors, including patio doors and cheap UPVC windows.

According to Windowinfo.co.uk, 75 per cent of burglars' entry is gained by forcing a window vent or breaking the glass. It advises installing double glazing, particularly to the rear or side of the property as these windows are at a higher risk of attack.ADNFCR-2394-ID-19413654-ADNFCR
