'Plan needed' for housing upgrade

The FMB is calling for the government to plan its energy efficiency driveThe government needs to put a plan in place to support its efforts to improve the efficiency of all homes in the UK, the Federation of Master Builders has claimed. The Federation of Master Builders (FMB) has called on the government to develop an action plan on how it intends to make all properties across the UK energy efficient.

Brian Berry, director of external affairs for the body, has claimed plans to upgrade all homes by 2030 will not succeed unless incentives are created to encourage people to add the likes of insulation and double glazing to their properties.

He explained that consumers must be convinced of the importance of the issue and also given more information on the general cost of retrofitting.

"If the government is serious about its commitment to upgrade our homes it needs to introduce some financial incentives such as cutting VAT to five per cent for home improvements; council tax rebates and/or the introduction of green mortgages," he added.

The FMB was established around 60 years ago to promote and represent small construction firms across the UK.ADNFCR-2394-ID-19172210-ADNFCR
