People 'must accept responsibility for home security'

A police officer has urged people to ensure they lock their homes properlyHomeowners must ensure they secure their windows and doors when leaving a property for any length of time, according to an expert.Residents in Crewe have been urged by a local police officer to "accept some responsibility" for home security.

Detective Sargeant Andy McGillan made the coment after it was revealed that five burglaries recently occurred in the area, in which the criminal just walked through unlock doors.

Speaking on the issue, the officer claimed people should make it routine to check all windows and doors are locked before they go to bed.

"We also advise people to keep outside doors locked at all times, even when they are at home and in a downstairs room," he added.

"Criminals who specialise in sneak-in burglaries can be into a kitchen or hallway, take a purse or bag and be out again in seconds."

Police in West Yorkshire recently announced plans to hold a roadshow to inform local people about issues including home security.ADNFCR-2394-ID-19191257-ADNFCR
