People "favour colour" in kitchens, bathrooms and bedrooms this season

Use bright colours in your kitchen this season.Colour is due to make a big come-back in kitchens, bedrooms and bathrooms this season, according to an interior designer.Homeowners are starting to use a lot more colour in their homes, including their kitchens, bathrooms and bedrooms, according to an interior designer.

Julia Kendell, interior designer on BBC1's DIY SOS, said that people will favour colour as the recession has made people "pretty miserable".

"We're seeing a lot more colour and a lot more comfort to people's homes. They want something that they can go home and feel happy in."

She added that minimal greys and dull shades are "long gone" as people want their properties to be homely.

According to Channel 4, natural schemes are popular in bedrooms this year, with the news provider suggesting creating a new bedroom by using wood panelled wardrobes or walls with natural floor coverings and furniture in woody tones with bright natural greens to inject colour.

As for kitchens, furniture and showroom designer Naomi Dean told housetohome.co.uk: "Feature worktops are big news at the moment".

She recommended using lime green, cobalt blue, warm yellow, pillar-box red or orange worktops to brighten up cheap kitchens.
