The latest group to receive support from local community support officers is the Improving Croft and Cowpen Quay over-50s forum in Blyth, who were told about crime prevention issues at a recent event.

According to the New Post Leader, officers particularly emphasised the importance of security in the summer months.

Sandra Killeen, Northumberland crime prevention officer, said: "By taking simple precautions like locking all doors and windows, even if leaving your home for only a few minutes, can make a real difference to protecting your property and be a huge deterrant to opportunistic thieves."

Police forces in areas including Peterborough and Hamilton have also recently been out in their local regions to highlight the importance of home security to residents.
