Over 30% of Brits 'not investing in security'

New research has suggested homeowners are failing to invest in securityNew research has revealed that a number of people have not invested in home security products in the past year.A third of Brits have not bought home security products in the past 12 months, according to a new study.

Research by Gocompare.com revealed that one in three have not invested in garden security over the last year, while a further 35 per cent have spent less than £100 on such items.

The most popular products with those who have invested were higher fencing, security lighting and, in some cases, CCTV.

Hayley Parsons, chief executive of Gocompare.com, said the website would always encourage people to improve security rather than relying on cover.

"It is important to think about making the property secure as well as shopping around for the most appropriate home insurance," she added.

Detective Sargeant Andy McGillan of Cheshire Police recently claimed a lack of home security could invalidate insurance in the event of a burglary.
