More than 100,000 properties in Manchester are to have double glazing or other energy-saving home improvements installed as part of a new plan launched this week by Manchester City Council.Over 100,000 homes in Manchester are to receive double glazing or other energy-efficient home improvements as part of the city council's new plan to reduce carbon dioxide emissions.According to the council, installation the double glazing windows and insulation will reduce residents' energy bills and will save over 350,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide every year.The plan, titled Manchester: A Certain Future, was coordinated by Manchester City Council but was created by over 100 organisations. Sir Richard Leese, leader of the city council, said: "Manchester led the industrial revolution and we now intend to play a lead role in tackling the challenges which climate change presents."Representatives from 192 nations are currently in Copenhagen to discuss the creation of a global policy to prevent climate change.Sir Leese urged these leaders to secure a "binding agreement that sets ambitious targets for reducing global emissions, while also providing resources to developing countries".Posted by Jack Smith.
