Research shows 13 per cent of homeowners will make large-scale changes to their home in the next 12 months. One in ten property owners across the UK is planning to make structural home improvements in the coming year, according to new research. A study by Sainsbury's Finance found that 3.27 million, or 13 per cent of, British homeowners, have plans to undertake major structural work on their properties in the next 12 months. The most popular home improvement planned is loft conversions, followed by side extensions and garage overhauls. Also shown in the research was that the average amount to be spent on household structural work is £22,730. Joanne Mallon, Sainsbury's Home Insurance Manager, said: "In the current housing climate, creating extra space in your home is another option for those who have maybe decided to put their plans to move on hold." The Times recently reported that women are increasingly carrying out home improvements themselves as TV stars such as Kirstie Allsopp are encouraging women to embark on tasks.
