Low prices make now a good time for home improvements As builders' prices are currently low, now may be a good time to opt for work to be carried out on a home, it has been claimed.Carrying out home improvements now may well be a good move, one expert has argued.

Director at the National Home Improvement Council Andrew Leech said that building costs tend to be lower than usual at the moment and competitive quotes can often be found.

Jobs such as installing new fitted kitchens may be available at reduced prices as those in the trade keep their prices down as a result of the recession.

"There are some pretty keen prices coming through from builders for work to be done - very competitive quotes," said Mr Leech.

His comments follow research from Sainsbury's Home Insurance which shows that more than three million homeowners are planning some form of structure change to their property within the next year.

However, many homeowners were apparently unaware that they would need to inform their insurance provider when major work is carried out on their property, as changes could affect claims.
