A Nottingham resident has sought advice from the Energy Saving Trust on how to make his home more energy efficient and now benefits from double glazing and insulation, and is fitting solar panels. With energy prices rising, an increasing number of households are looking to make some green home improvements and one Nottingham resident has spoken out about how he made his home more energy efficient.Jake Jackson, 59, of West Bridgford told This is Nottingham that he has added double glazing, wall cladding, more loft insulation and a new boiler to his property in a bid to cut down on energy usage. He also sought help from Energy Saving Trust advisors who suggested that he could also save more cash by fitting solar photovoltaic panels to the roof to generate electricity.Such measures will cost around £10,000, however there are grants from the government available and it is estimated that rest of the money could be recouped over ten years if proposals to pay people for the renewable energy they produce become reality.Mr Jackson told the news provider: "It's a balance between wanting to do the right thing in making a contribution in reducing carbon emissions, which I see as a civic duty in some senses, and obviously not putting ourselves seriously out of pocket."Recent research from the Energy Saving Trust highlighted that a third of people questioned would pay more for a house which features renewable technology such as solar panels.Written by Liam Cass
