Ninety-year-old building gains cheap double glazingA historic building in Australia has undergone extensive redevelopment, which included the installation of cheap double glazing, to improve its eco-credentials.A 90-year-old building in Australia has undergone an AUD 250,000 (£151,242) makeover, which included the installation of cheap double glazing.

The property, newly labelled an 'Ecohouse', was renovated over a six month period and now boasts many energy-saving features and sustainable technologies.

CERES Environmental Park in Brunswick East, Victoria, is home to the building, which has been a display house since 1982.

Cinnamon Evans, leader of the CERES team said that some of the technologies used are not on display anywhere else in Victoria.

"We're trying to appeal to a wider audience and show that energy and water conservation can be attractive and modern and pleasant to live in. It doesn't have to be restrictive and uncomfortable," she added.

Last month, it was announced that Camden Borough Council had received £150,000 of funding to create its second eco-house.

The 1880s three-storey Victorian terraced house on Bertram Street is to be transformed so that its energy emissions are cut by around 80 per cent.

Cheap double glazing could be used in this plight as it reduces heat loss through windows by 50 per cent.
