Newcastle police issue security warning

Property owners in Newcastle must work with police to boost home security in the area, it has been claimedPolice in Newcastle have called on property owners to work with them to increase home security in the city.A police inspector in Newcastle has called on residents in the city to work with officers on home security issues.

Neighbourhood inspector Steve Hails has claimed that "one burglary is still too many" and wants to work with people to ensure their belongings are safe.

He made the comment to ChronicleLive.co.uk after a persistent offender in the area was jailed for over seven years after a police probe into a spate of burglaries in the western area of the city.

Discussing the case, the officer said: "This shows what can be done when everybody pulls together.

"I'd like to thank all local residents in the area for their patience, help and support throughout and hope they’ll continue to work with us to reduce offences even further."

Police in West Yorkshire recently commenced an operation designed to raise awareness of home security in the Kirklees area.
