A new initiative designed to encourage people to cut their energy usage by ten per cent by the end of 2010 has been launched in the UK.Homeowners have been urged to join a major energy efficiency campaign launched by the Guardian newspaper and a British filmmaker. The 10:10 scheme is designed to give people the advice they need to commit to cutting their energy usage by ten per cent by the end of 2010. A range of businesses and celebrities have signed up to scheme, which could see many property owners install measures such as UPVC windows and doors at their homes. The scheme is the brainchild of Franny Armstrong, the director of recent environmental drama The Age of Stupid, who told the Guardian that the initiative could influence politicians on the issue of climate change. She said: "Once we've got a critical mass of support we will go to the government and say the people of Britain are ready to cut by ten per cent, now we need you to move." The Independent newspaper recently claimed double glazing is one of the best ways for homeowners to boost the efficiency of properties.Written by Glenn Derbyshire
