New double glazing for village hall as part of £320k renovation

Renovation has begun on Alfrick's village hallLottery funding is enabling a village hall to install double glazing and build a new kitchen.A £320,000 refurbishment, which will include new double glazing, has started at a village hall in Worcestershire after months of delays.

One of the sides of Alfrick's village hall is to be completely demolished and replaced with a new foyer, meeting rooms, toilet and changing rooms as well as a refurbished main hall and kitchen, the Malvern Gazette reported.

Community use of the hall will increase after the renovations as different events will be able to take place simultaneously.

Speaking to the newspaper, Richard Steele, committee member of the Peace Memorial Hall, said: "It will be far more energy efficient with double glazing and a new heating system."

The project has been funded through the Big Lottery Fund as well as the money from the Severn Waste Environmental Fund, which is part of Welcome to Our Future.

According to the Glass and Glazing Federation, if all existing windows in the UK were converted to energy efficient windows, such as double glazing, the average yearly saving would be £2.36 billion.ADNFCR-2394-ID-19442452-ADNFCR
