Builders seeking approval for new developments in London have reduced their proposed carbon emissions by 34 per cent, a new report has found, perhaps by including double glazing windows in their plans.New London developments seeking approval from the Mayor of London Boris Johnson's office are reducing their potential carbon emissions by about a third, perhaps by including double glazing windows, a report has found. The London South Bank University report, which was commissioned by the Greater London Authority, found that the carbon savings made by developers has increased from around 29 per cent in 2006 to 34 per cent in 2009. It also revealed that the challenging targets set by the government has driven developers to think of different ways of reducing their carbon emissions, which could include using cheap UPVC windows, well-insulated cheap patio doors and energy-efficient heating systems. Mr Johnson said: "With the majority of London's carbon emissions coming from buildings, it is crucial that developers, planners and boroughs are encouraged to raise the bar when proposing new sites, so they are as energy efficient as possible" According to the Energy Saving Trust, installing double glazing windows can reduce a home's energy bills by around £135 and can cut carbon emissions by 720kg each year.Posted by Helen Sykes.
