New crack-down on cowboy kitchen fitters

The ISR will make sure homeowners do not get stuck with a cowboy builderThe Kitchen, Bathroom and Bedroom Industries National Training Group is launching a new register of approved home improvement traders, making it easier for homeowners to avoid cowboy builders.A new Industry Standards Register (ISR) has been launched by the Kitchen, Bathroom and Bedroom Industries National Training Group (KBB NTG), to help homeowners find out whether their installer is genuine.

The register will help to regulate kitchen fitters by listing the details of all the ones that have been approved by the KBB NTG and the National Association for Professional Inspectors and Testers (NAPIT). Although the ISR will initially be for kitchen installers, it will eventually extend across all trades.

John Andrews, chief executive officer of the NAPIT said that the new register will help to crack down on rogue kitchen fitters.

He said: "We don't want complaints, we don't want the dream that you've had when you have a new kitchen designed turn into a nightmare because things are going wrong."

In the first three months of this year alone, Consumer Direct received more than 19,000 complaints about home improvement traders, according to the NAPIT.
