Nearly 200 homes to receive cheap double glazing

Nearly 200 homes in belfast are to receive cheap double glazingNearly 200 properties in Northern Ireland are soon to receive cheap double glazing and other major external improvements.Some 193 homes in west Belfast are soon to benefit from over £470,000-worth of external improvements, including the installation of cheap double glazing.

Houses, flats and bungalows built in the Divis and Lower Falls areas of the city between 1982 and 1995 are to benefit from the refurbishment project, which is part of the Northern Ireland Housing Executive's External Cyclical Maintenance Programme.

uPVC window suppliers will be used to replace old frames with cheap double glazing.

Defective external doors will also be replaced and, where required, roofs, chimneys, fencing and paths will be repaired.

Robert McClenaghan, of the Lower Falls Residents Association, said: "The work will not only give a boost to the individual tenants involved but will also go some way in improving morale in the area as a whole."

Earlier this month, Building Design reported that cheap double glazing had been used in the refurbishment of Trellick Tower in central London.

The 31-storey building is currently being renovated by architecture firm John McAslan and Partners.
