A museum in Oxfordshire is to get double glazingArtefacts currently hidden away from the public will be able to go on display at a museum in Oxfordshire thanks to the installation of double glazing.Abingdon Museum is to get new double glazing as part of its £3.5 million renovation.

The museum, in Oxfordshire, is showing the new proposals, which include new floors and a lift, to the public as of today (November 18th), the Herald reported.

According to the newspaper, staff at the 17th century listed County Hall hope the improvements will lead to a 50 per cent increase in visitor numbers.

Speaking to the newspaper, Lauren Gilmour, museum curator, said: "Currently, we cannot display some of our best items because of things such as the building's temperatures or light levels damaging them, but this will change all that."

The new windows with double glazing will help to reduce drafts in the museum and will increase energy efficiency.

Double glazing could save Abingdon Museum hundreds of pounds as, according to the Energy Saving Trust, the insulation it provides can reduce heat loss through windows by half.
